MAT-54 "Jungle cutter" - submachine gun for colonial troops.

A fictional vintage 9mm open bolt submachine gun, that was hardly inspired by French MAT-49 and Australian Owen Gun.

Because this gun is intended for the use by the colonial troops who operate in harsh conditions such as jungles or deserts - the main focus of the design was to make the gun simple, reliable and protected from the dirt, mud, sand and so on.
Thats why all main crucial mechanisms are keeped covered and there is no openings near them.
The receiver consists of 2 big parts - main body made from steel and top cover made from light aluminium, that protects the bolt and recoil spring from the mud and gives easy access to the internals for the disassembly.
Ejection port opening finds itself far from the working bits in the front grip. Bolt handle originates in apart cut out under the main bolt body, so the main bolt body is protected from the mud too. The cutout for the bolt handle in the right receiver wall is protected by the spring loaded dust cover. The top-mounted magazine serves for reliability as well.

This design was made for my graduation project that is about a colonial conflict in a retro-futuristic fictional world filled with dinosaurs, jungles, rice-fields and tropical heat.
